Our Story

The history of the town of Van Wyck begins on an ancient Indian trail and over the years has gone by numerous names. The town today has been based on a community of families that worked together to make the town a special place to live.

This document was prepared by Town Historian Betty Fox Broome. Read this and you will learn more about how the community was established and named, and get a closer look at the community’s landmarks and founding fathers.

Kathleen Bates Belk (1900-1981) wrote this document that covers the various names the community was known by before settling on the name Van Wyck. She also discusses the history of the area from the time it was inhabited by indigenous people, then the migration of Scots-Irish from Pennsylvania.
