The Van Wyck Community Development Club was organized in November, 1954, and on September 6, 1957, purchased the old Van Wyck School building which was then torn down in 1960-1961 and replaced by the modern building that still stands today. The building was used for meetings and social gatherings, and even housed the Van Wyck VFD fire truck.
